Can anybody suggest a way to interface ClearCom headset system to an
audio console? I would like to listen on an audio input channel and talk
to comm through an output channel. Is the ClearCom IF4W4 4-wire
interface what I need? How about the AC-701 Telephone and 2-wire
interface? Thanks

On the three wire inter station cable
pin 1 is ground, pin 3 is the com bus (about -10 I think.)
( pin 2 is + 24 volts)

On the 4 wire headset plug

Pin 1 = Mic ground
2 = Mic hot
3= Headphone cold
4= Headphone +

DO NOT tie pin 1 & 3 on the headset together.

4 wire interface is good but a much cheaper way is the simply use a
RS-501 single channel beltpack, get an Xlr4 and wire an adapter going
into the headset port of the beltpack. If i remember, Pin is Mic gnd,
Pin 2 is Mic hot, Pin 3 is Speaker - and Pin 4 is Speaker +. So Board
output padded down goes into Pin 1 and 2, and your return to listen is
taken from pin 3 and 4.

Essentially, yes. Or you could use a simple switch to connect
the full-duplex line between an input (for monitoring) and an
output (for speaking). The hybrid 2-wire to 4-wire converters
(such as the models you mentioned) would be more important
for full-duplex (concurrent listening and speaking).

I have a clone of the Clearcom system construction plans on
my website. Many people have used the info to make their
own low-budget stations. http://www.rcrowley.com/comclone
For that matter, you could use any intercom station (belt-pack,
etc.) and use the 4-pin XLR "headset" connector to feed the
console input and output.

I have broken out the 4 pin connector from a beltpack many times, but it
is not the optimal way to do it due to impedance and level differences.

The Studio Technologies #72 http://studio-tech.com/ProductPage-M72.htm
is a clean and simple audio in/out interface with metering for intercom
or IFB circuits on either Clearcom or RTS systems.

This is one of our product lines (http://atscomms.com/intercom), it is
under $250.00.

I aggree but the headset connector method is worth knowing since most
of the time there is an extra beltpack around and with a simple and
inexpansive adapter you have all that you need.

Yea, but with the Studio Technologies device, you don't need a spare
belt-pack! Thanks for posting this Marty. I needed just this last
week while needing to feed directors PL to several cameras thru a
speaker! They were all hand-held and the bulky headset was something
they did not want to mess with. So into a PA speaker and all was
right with the world.
